Western Districts Rugby Football Club started in 1951 and played at the Normanby grounds in Spring Hill. Wests amalgamated with Toowong Rugby Football Club in 1961.
Also in 1961 we created Wests Juniors Rugby Football Club. Junior sign on’s grew enormously over the next 8 to 12 years and so Wests established two junior Clubs in the region, namely Kenmore Bears Rugby Football Club and Ashgrove Junior Rugby Football Club (now GPS Rugby). The Club located to is own home ground (“The Kennel”) at Toowong Memorial Park at Sylvan Rd in 1973.
Now a days our Club is a Community Club that caters for three year olds to ninety year olds. Our 3-5 year olds start in “Puppy Pack”, our Juniors go from under 6 to under 17, we have Girls 7’s from 11 years of age, our Colts are under 19’s, with men’s Grades Team, and our Women’s Team. We also have our Modified Rugby Program for kids that learn and perceive differently. We also have our Golden Oldies “The Bullfrogs”.
Most importantly we are a Premier Rugby Club that competes in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition. We also are strong in Sevens competitions with “Tribe 7s”.
