Congratulations to the Wests Womens 7s team

  • March 10, 2013

Once again the West 7s women have represented our club proudly and attained great results for us and for themselves personally.

In 2012 Wests supported a team in the inaugural Queensland U18 School girls 7s tournament. Our girls won the silverware, undefeated in all games. No points were scored against them. Don Caslick and Cassidy Holland coached and managed the girls.

This year we have supported a womens 7s team, once again coached by Cassidy and managed by Don.

Next weekend (16th March) they will be without a number of key players, but provided they finish in the top 2 of their pool they will qualify to play off for silverware at Suncorp Stadium as a curtain raiser to the Reds V Bulls Super XV fixture on 23rd March.

5 members of the team have been selected in the Queensland 7s train-on squad and 4 others have been selected in a TFA team to compete at the national championships to be held in Sydney in April.

2013 signifies 20 years of women’s rugby at Wests. The ARU and the QRU have identified 7’s rugby as an area they wish to support approaching the 2016 Olympics. Wests women are well represented in this form of the game.
